Vibe Coding

Building software primarily by prompting an AI in plain English rather than writing the code yourself.

In detail

Vibe coding is the practice of building software by describing what you want in natural language and letting an AI agent generate, run and debug the code. Tools like Lovable, Bolt.new, Cursor, Claude Code and Replit have made this accessible to people with no formal development background. The "vibe" refers to the human guiding the high-level direction while the AI handles syntax, libraries and boilerplate. Output ranges from a working prototype in an afternoon to production-grade applications in a few weeks.

Why it matters for Australian business

Vibe coding has lowered the barrier to building internal tools, MVPs and customer-facing apps for Australian SMBs that previously could not afford traditional development. The trade-off is that AI agents prioritise getting code to compile and run, not security or architecture. Veracode's 2025 GenAI Code Security Report found 45% of AI-generated code contains security vulnerabilities, with credentials, access controls and rate limiting frequently missing.
