NOPSEMANational Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority

The independent regulator for safety, well integrity and environmental management of Australian offshore oil and gas operations.

In detail

NOPSEMA is the Commonwealth regulator overseeing all offshore petroleum operations in Australian waters and most state and territory coastal waters. It enforces safety, well integrity and environmental management obligations under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006. NOPSEMA assesses safety cases, well operations management plans and environment plans and conducts inspections of offshore facilities.

Why it matters for Australian business

Australian offshore oil and gas operators have NOPSEMA as a primary regulator alongside their commercial obligations. AI tools used in safety reporting, well planning, environmental modelling and incident management need to integrate with NOPSEMA submission requirements and the operator's safety case. We work with offshore operators on AI deployments that respect NOPSEMA's expectations.
